KAITLIN’S LAST WISH

The joys of a child danced in your heart
‘Til chastened too soon by impossible trials.
You fought bravely until all hope was gone.
Given one last wish, you chose self-denial.

Your wish is a water well in a distant land
So that African children may safely thrive.
Your school followed you and others did too
With twenty-one wells that you inspired.

From where you are you know we miss you,
Our eyes still hold back anxious tears.
Recalling your sweetness our smiles reappear;
Heaven is more beautiful with you there.
